I love learning. I love adventure. No matter how old I get, I like traveling to new places, tackling new challenges, and learning new things.

It seems I’ve always been interested in knowing and experiencing more. I recently found my “Babyhood Years” book and read these entries my mom wrote:

     “At age 15 months, he could say, ‘What is that?’”

     One of his favorite pastimes was “getting into anything he wasn’t supposed to.”

     “By the time he was two years old, he could (and would) talk your arm off. He began asking questions then and still hasn’t stopped.”

Five decades later, I still ask questions. I still explore.

That’s life, whether we’re two or fifty-two years old. Honest questions.  Unexplored territory. Challenging adventures. New experiences. Exciting possibilities.

Opportunities to trust God with the unknown.

Read that last phrase again: opportunities to trust God with the unknown. That’s one reason why this time of transition at Parkway is so exciting. Only He knows what the future holds, but the God who has led every step of the way thus far will not let us down.

I’m convinced God has something great in store for Parkway. We have not yet seen all He intends to do through a congregation fully committed to Him. We do know this, though: He is trustworthy at all times. He knows our yesterdays, our today, and our tomorrows.

A God-sized adventure awaits for Parkway . . . and that’s thrilling!  

This coming Sunday, we will begin a study of the book of Joshua, my favorite Old Testament book. This book is a study of God’s people as they follow Him into the Promised Land. My prayer is that God will use this study to help prepare us for the future.  

Also on Sunday, we will have a “Kids’ Foundations Class” at 5pm upstairs in the Family Life Center. This class is for children asking questions about God, interested in baptism, or awaiting baptism. I encourage parents and children to attend this class as you prepare your children for the future by leading them to God.  

By the way, my mom also wrote in my baby book, “He first shook hands with everyone who asked him to in October 1961” [at ten months of age].  Apparently, God was preparing me a long time ago to be a preacher!

He really does know what the future holds.
